Ambler Farmers' Market will Open in May

A farmers' market will open in Ambler in May in the SEPTA parking lot next to Trax.

Information from Ambler Main Street:

Ambler Main Street, the non-profit organization responsible for Restaurant Week, First Fridays in Ambler and many other community events, announced that that the Borough of Ambler will be home to a farmers’ market in the spring!

“We are so excited to finally have a farmers’ market!” said Rachel Levine, who played an integral role in the selection process, “We are surrounded by farms but have no access to fresh food in the Borough – this changes everything.”

The process to bring a farmers’ market started over the summer with a petition that resulted in over 600 signatures – far exceeding the expectations of the organizers.  A survey further helped the group determine the best day and time for the market.  “We essentially had to write a business plan that proved the Ambler community could support a market that offered fresh, local and affordable produce, dairy and other food products” said Allison Wolf, a volunteer and co-President of Ambler Main Street, “We are really happy to expand what Ambler Main Street does for the community, 2013 is going to be a very big year for our organization and the businesses we serve!”

“A farmer’s market is a natural fit” said Steve Waxman, owner and chef at Trax Restaurant,  “This market will strengthen our community by providing the opportunity to get together every week around food – something that has been missing for quite some time.” Karen Palmer, also a volunteer with Ambler Main Street, added, “Ambler Main Street is very fortunate to have dedicated and hard-working volunteers who acted on what the community wanted- fresh, local food” she continued “A weekly farmers’ market is a community asset that will greatly benefit Ambler residents, merchants and business owners as shoppers extend their market experience into the downtown area.”

The Ambler Farmers’ Market is expected to open in May and run through November and will be operated by Farm to City, whose goal is to unite communities, families and farmers through good, locally-grown food.  The market will be located in the SEPTA parking lot adjacent to Trax Café.

Ambler Main Street, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to making "Downtown Ambler" a social, cultural and business center for Ambler and the surrounding areas including Upper Dublin, Lower Gwynedd and Whitpain.  Downtown Ambler is a great place to visit for good food, entertainment, shopping or just a walk on the avenue.
