Armed Robbery at Whitpain Bank

Perpetrator wore fake beard; same bank robbed in May 2010

A man armed with a gun robbed the Citizens Bank location at 48 W. Skippack Pike in Whitpain as it was opening for business late Sunday morning.

Whitpain Police said a six-foot tall white male weighing about 180 pounds parked his car a short distance away from the bank. He entered the bank about five minutes after it opened, displayed a silver handgun, and approached the tellers' counter.

He was wearing a fake red or blonde beard and a black hoodie with a grey shirt underneath. He took an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen headed westbound on Skippack Pike in an unknown vehicle.

The bank was previously robbed in May of 2010. Whitpain Police told Patch there was no known connection between this robbery and any previous armed robbery incident.

The bank holds Sunday hours from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. but was closed for the day following the robbery. An unidentified employee of the bank told Patch that she was not permitted to speak with the press about the incident.

Good to see our men in blue having a laugh after the robbery. Nice, fellas. Very professional. Glad no one was hurt....
