Art in the Store Front Gallery: Artist Installation Tonight!

Local artists, Marita McVeigh and Pauline Braun's artwork to be featured at local gallery installation.

A local gallery is showing the work of local artists and friends, Pauline Braun and Marita McVeigh.

The opening reception, will be held at , 14 East Butler Avenue, Ambler PA on Friday July 15, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Both artists, Pauline and Marita are adult, non-traditional Montgomery County Community College students who met each other in a printmaking class in Fine Art Program.  Marita recalls being drawn to Pauline’s “easy going nature, and ability to make (her) laugh.”  They’ve been friends ever since. The artists have a lot in common, in addition to their art, and going back to school as adults, they both come from large families and were raised in the same Philadelphia neighborhood.

According to their press release, both ladies are “members of The Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center in Philadelphia. Some of their original work can be seen and bought in the small gift shop at the Center where fellow member artists sell other handmade items, prints and note cards, in addition to their gallery space.  Pauline and Marita are also members of the Oreland Art Center.”

Marita McVeigh, 55, was thirty years old when started painting, “before she even knew how,” she says.  McVeigh uses mainly oils or pastels,” and favors nature settings in her artwork.  She’s also a member of the Ivyland Art Group in Bucks County, led by artist and teacher Ellen Hall, a past member of The Upstairs Gallery in Lahaska, PA

Pauline, 53, usually paints with watercolors or acrylic, and enjoys painting scenes of city life.  Pauline is also a mural painter, and is presently seeking commissions while she isn’t enjoying the teaching of her beginner painting and beginner drawing classes for adults and teens at the Manyunk-Roxborough Art Center.

Both ladies have been frequently spotted painting in many well loved, local Philly, suburban, and New Jersey shore sites where they’ve enjoyed painting together over the years.  McVeigh recounted Braun calling her and saying, “OK, let’s go to this site, or that site,” and how much she’s enjoyed painting together.

Marita and Pauline’s work will be on display at until September 15, 2011.
