Obituary: Dorothy Florence (nee Warr) Sutton

Born in Sunbury and raised in Abington, Dorothy was involved in many organizations including the Colony Club of Ambler (past president), DAR, Questers, The Historical Society of Fort Washington and AAUW.

 

Dorothy Florence (nee Warr) Sutton died after a brief illness on Aug. 26, 2012 in Abington. She was 95.

Born Feb. 2, 1917 in Sunbury, Pa., she was the wife of the late Wilfred P. Sutton, and a resident of Gwynedd Estates, Ambler.

The daughter of the late John R. Warr and Dorothy C. Warr of Abington, Dorothy graduated from and received her Bachelor of Arts from the Pennsylvania State College in 1938. She was employed by Abington Hospital, social services, Sutton Landscaping Company, she was a substitute teacher for Upper Dublin School District and was a long time employee of Ambler Medical Associates. She also served on the board of Sutton Trading Company. 

Dorothy was very active in community affairs, through her church, St. Alphonsus of Maple Glen and many organizations including the Colony Club of Ambler (past president), DAR, Questers, The Historical Society of Fort Washington and AAUW. She continued to stay active while residing at Gwynedd Estates for the last 16 years. 

In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter Martha Ann Palme and her grandson, Richard G. Hartzell Jr. as well as two sisters and their spouses Duane G. & C. Eleanor Warr Clarke and Ray and Anne Egbert. 

Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Margaret G. Hartzell and her husband Richard; and by a son, John W. and his wife Kay; son-in law Robert Palme; as well as grandchildren Andrew Hartzell, Christina Gogel, Brian Palme, Anne Jones, Steven Palme, J.W. Sutton, Matthew Sutton and Nathan Sutton and 13 great grandchildren.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial today at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus RC Church, 33 Conwell Drive, Maple Glen PA 19002. Viewing at the church starts at 9:30 a.m.

Internment will immediately follow the service at Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
