Wissahickon Fire Company was dispatched to the 800 block of Wooded Pond Rd. in Lower Gwynedd Township just before midnight.
The fire, which was in the basement, Al Comly, Lower Gwynedd Township’s Fire Marshal described as heat intense, which he said was hard of the fire personnel on scene.
He added that one of the copper pipes in the basement burst and started dumping water into the basement, which aided in putting out the fire.
The family was home, but made it out of the house safely. Two cats, a bird, and gerbil, were not able to be saved.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, Comly said the fire was contained within items that were stored in the basement.
The Red Cross helped the family find a place to live temporarily. The gas and electric was turned off in the home, and there is smoke, fire and water damage in the house. However, Comly said the house is salvageable.
