Whitpain Police Reports: Retail Theft, DUI, Drug Arrest

Police incident reports from Whitpain Township Police Department.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT - On Tuesday June 12, 2012 at 1:47 a.m. a purple Plymouth was stopped for an equipment violation in the 1000 block of Dekalb Pk. During the stop the driver, identified as Richard Barba, 18, of the 400 block of Militia Hill Rd Ft. Washington, was in possession of a small amount of marijuana. A passenger in the car, Camille DeFrancesco, 24, of the 1500 block of Skippack Pk. had a marijuana pipe in his pocket. Another passenger in the car, Jeremy Rubach, 18, of the 1500 block of Pulaski Drive admitted to having a small clear bag of marijuana with him.  The subjects were cited for Disorderly Conduct and released at the scene.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT - On Wednesday June 13, 2012 at 8:35pm a silver Toyota was stopped for making an illegal left turn.  During the stop, officers located a small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia. The driver of the vehicle, Jeroh Park, 22 of the unit block of Russell Place in Ambler was cited for Disorderly Conduct and released.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT - On Thursday June 14, 2012 at 1:54am officers saw a man sleeping in a Jeep Cherokee in the parking lot of the . Officers identified John Tisdale, 59, of the 1900 block of Foulkways in Gwynedd Valley.  Officers could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officers could see remnants of marijuana along with paraphernalia. Tisdale was cited for Disorderly Conduct and released at the scene.

DUI - On Sunday June 17 at 2:58am officers responded to the area of Skippack Pk. and Cathcart Rd. for a reported reckless driver in a Black Jeep Cherokee. Officers stopped the Jeep on School Rd at Cross Lane. Officers identified the driver, Gabriel Deleon, 28, of the 1000 block of Cherry Street in Norristown. An odor of alcoholic beverage was detected on Deleon’s breath and he had blood shot eyes. He was taken to Mercy Suburban Hospital for blood. Charges including DUI and traffic violations will be filed upon receipt of blood results.

DUI - On Saturday June 16 at 1:15am a Nissan was for traffic violations on Hoover Rd. and Union Meeting Rd. Officers identified the driver, as Edward Griffin Jr., 45, of the unit block of Orange Avenue in Ambler. As officers spoke with Griffin it was apparent that he was intoxicated. Griffin admitted that he had been drinking. Griffin was transported to Mercy Suburban Hospital for blood. Charges including DUI and traffic violations will be filed upon receipt of blood results.

DUI - On Wednesday June 13 at 1:11am officers responded to a vehicle crash on Stenton Ave and Penllyn Pk. The operator of the vehicle walked away from the crash scene prior to police arrival and was picked up by another vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle and identified the passenger as the operator of the vehicle involved in the crash. It was apparent that the driver was intoxicated. The driver, Janice Lim, 33, of the 100 block of Doral Drive in Blue Bell was transported to Mercy Suburban Hospital for blood. Charges including DUI and other traffic violations will be filed upon receipt of blood results.

DRUG ARREST - On Thursday June 14 at 11:52am officers witnessed a traffic violation by a grey Honda on Dekalb Pk. at Skippack Pk. Officers detected an odor of marijuana in the vehicle. The passenger, Danik Simmons, 32, of the unit block of West 112th Street, New York, NY, admitted to having marijuana inside the car and turned it over to officers along with two cigars. The driver gave officers consent to search his vehicle which yielded more marijuana and paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Simmons admitted that the additional drugs found were his. Simmons was placed under arrest for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was arraigned by District Justice Borek and bail was set at $5,000/10%. He was remanded to Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

RETAIL THEFT - On Sunday June 17 at 3:54pm officers responded to the for a retail theft.  Officers were advised by Giant loss prevention that a male had stolen $251.54 worth of merchandise without paying. The actor was identified as Cody Bates, 23, of the 800 block of Harleysville Pk in Harleysville. Bates will be charged with Misdemeanor Retail Theft and Receiving Stolen Property.

RETAIL THEFT - On Wednesday June 13 at 5:34pm officers responded to for a retail theft. Officers were advised by Kohl’s loss prevention that two males were stealing merchandise in the store. Officers identified William T. Freeman, 54, of the 100 block of Lawton St. Norristown, who stole merchandise totaling $64.99. He was charged with summary Retail Theft, cited and released.  The second subject was identified as Russell Williams, 49, of the 500 block of E. Hector Street Conshohocken. Williams had stolen merchandise totaling $206.97. Williams was remanded to Montgomery County Correctional Facility on a Detainer for a probation violation. Williams was charged with misdemeanor Retail Theft, Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of Instrument of Crime.

RETAIL THEFT - On Wednesday June 13 at 1:30pm officers responded to the Giant Food Store 1760 Dekalb Pk for a reported retail theft.  Giant employees advised officers that a female had stolen merchandise totaling $70.31. Officers identified the actor as Vania Vartanian, 47, of the 1600 block of Winchester Drive Blue Bell. She was arrested for summary Retail Theft and released.
