Wissahickon Presents 1:1 Laptop Plan

In September, 6th and 9th grades will be the first classes to be equipped with laptops and netbooks.

John McGowan, , presented the implementation plan for the .

The plan is to begin be equipping the incoming 6th and 9th grade classes this September and refresh the incoming 6th and 9th grade classes each year until all secondary classes have the netbooks. By June 2016, all secondary students will receive the hardware, software and the online learning tools for 21st century learning.

He added that an early teacher rollout will occur so that teachers are ready for the new school year.

To protect the district’s investment in the netbooks and laptops, middle school students will pay a $20 per year insurance and equipment fee, and high school students will pay $40 per year.

The 1:1 initiative will be assessed through classroom observations; student, parent and teacher surveys; and through standardized assessments.

There will also a be 21st Century Teaching and Learning webpage and newsletter, as well as plans to hold a 21st Century Teaching and Learning student showcase, to show what the students have created using the new tools.

Students and parents will attend an orientation for the computers to understand the device, how to use the software and how to care for the laptops.
