34 East Tavern Opens in Ambler's Historic Wyndham Hotel Building

34 East Tavern opened its doors in Ambler last Friday, in the Butler Avenue building last occupied by Finn McCool’s Tavern a year ago, according to The Ambler Gazette.

The 119-year-old building, which had earlier housed the historic Wyndham Hotel, suffered a wall collapse last May and was eventually repaired and deemed safe by structural engineers.

Finn McCool’s Tavern advertised that they were hiring new employees but it nothing materialized after news broke that authorities found co-owner Joseph Canazaro dead in his home after an armed invasion had occurred.

Then, one day, there was a sign on the building that read “34 East Tavern.”

Jack Del Conte, the tavern’s general manager since March, says that he hopes that the community members come by and are welcoming to their establishment.  “The Wyndham Hotel was the mainstay of Ambler,” Del Conte said. “It was a really classy place. We hope we can bring it back to that.”

“I am very excited for 34 East,” wrote council member Pat Strus in an email.  “They had a rough road to get to the opening of 34 East.  But they persevered and were able to do it!  I was there for their ‘soft’ opening and it was great to see the business back in action!  The food was excellent!  Lots of new faces, friendly atmosphere.  I wish them all the success!”
