Giant Gas Station Eyed for Old Texaco Site in Lower Gwynedd

The Lower Gwynedd Planning Commission recommended a waiver of land development to allow a five-pump, 10-station gas station at Bethlehem and Sumneytown pikes. The property is owned by Charles Dager.

The shuttered Texaco at Sumneytown and Bethlehem pikes in Lower Gwynedd that closed in 2007 could have some new life as a Giant Food Store gas station.
The Ambler Gazette reports that the Lower Gwynedd Planning Commission last week recommended a waiver of land development for the site and the request now heads for final approval to the board of supervisors and PennDOT.
Property owner Charles Dager has owned the site since 1972. It has always been a gas station, starting out as a Gulf and then becoming Texaco, until Shell purchased Texaco in 2006 and removed the gas tanks, per the report.
The proposal is for a five pump (10 station) gas station. A traffic engineer reported that there would be no significant impact to traffic at the intersection, which receives 3,500 cars per hour in its peak hour, according to the article.
