Violins and traditional Indian percussion instruments lead the moving cadences of Indian classical music, also known as Carnatic music. This marvelous, high-energy show features two instruments – the mridangam and the kanjira – that are widely used in Indian classical music. They function as percussion and tambourine, respectively, while also serving to highlight the tasteful rhythms found in the music. Rich with folk influences, the show will features performances by noted signers S. Sowmya and Bharat Sundar.
Sruti’s performance is supported by the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage through the Philadelphia Music Project.
