Wissahickon Middle School Outdoor Experience Hits a Road Block

An article written in the Montgomery Newspaper has caught my attention and probably others that have 6 graders currently in the Middle School.
The Principal, Dr. McAneny believes that the 30 yr old activity should be reworked. Due to costs, chaperone clearance fees, not enough fund raising, etc. and last but not least, the FINAL EXAMS.
As it was explained to me when my first child brought home the permission slip, that it was a class trip / utilize what you have learned through the school year activity. Yes it is a bit expensive due to the school district ruling that buses must be provided by an commercial bus company. The camp has worked with the school for many years to keep everything else in reachable means.
It is 3 days/ 2nights of hard work and activities set up for these children. For most it is their first time away from home without siblings. They come home tired but satisfied that they have achieved something meaningful and created new friends within their grade.

Dr. McAneny has brought all his issues to the Wissahickon School Board to review. He wants the board to make the decision so he does not have to make it himself and create history for all to talk about in the future. Trust us Dr. McAneny this is not the first arrangement that has happened in your career with Wisshickon School District that hasn't been handled to benefit the children here.
There is not any explanation of whether you have sought out assistance or suggestions from the PTA or others that are actively associated in the Middle School's Daily Functions.

These children look forward to this trip. They have heard lots of good things from home, teachers, and other children that have taken this trip before. There is still time to raise the funds necessary for all to go.
Firm up other chaperones, and move the trip back into May as it has been in the past not to interrupt the blessed FINAL EXAMS.
Hopefully, the School District can help Dr McAneny out with his animosities and reluctance to keep up a tradition.
