Liquor License Hearing
Lower Gwynedd Township Solicitor James Garrity announced a public hearing regarding the liquor license for Surah Japanese Restaurant in the Spring House shopping center on Bethlehem Pike.
At the meeting, to be held on Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m., the Lower Gwynedd Board of Supervisors will consider the proposed inter-municipal transfer of a liquor license from Monamee, LLC, to Surah Restaurant, located at 1121 Bethlehem Pike.
Surah opened in June of 2012 as a BYO, offering customers Japanese cuisine with a Korean soul food flair.
Monamee, LLC, currently licenses 2917 Swede Road in East Norriton, which houses Minado Japanese Seafood Buffet Restaurant.
The purpose is to receive comments and recommendations from township residents concerning the intent to transfer the license.
The board could vote on the proposal at the end of the meeting.
Lower Pike Overlay District and Map Amendment Hearing
The township will also hold a public hearing on and could vote to adopt a new ordinance that sets zoning for the Lower Pike Overlay District, an area on Bethlehem Pike near its intersection with Dagger Road. Click here for the proposed amendment, including a map.
The ordinance is an "effort to stimulate commercial activity," Lower Gwynedd Township Solicitor said in a previous Patch article.
According to the amendment, permitted uses include multifamily residential, office, retail/personal use, convenience store with sale of motor vehicle fuels, municipal use, or any combination of the mentioned uses.
Prohibited uses include public garages, motor vehicle sales, service, repair, renal or leasing, or trucking terminals.
This zoning amendment was part of the "I Like the Pike" initiative, which will also allow for more residential density along Bethlehem Pike.
