MCCC Opens 'Green' Parking Lot
The community college opened a new parking lot this fall, exclusively for carpoolers and energy-efficient vehicles.
Montgomery County Community College has opened its green parking lot at Central Campus, exclusively for students, faculty and staff who either carpool or drive an energy-efficient vehicle.
Drivers can apply for a permit to the 185-space lot, as long as they plan to carpool or drive an approved vehicle – any electric and hybrid vehicles and conventional vehicles which have earned an EPA rating of 27 mpg city and highway combined (or higher).
The green parking lot, located next to the Advanced Technology Center, includes 10 charging stations for electric vehicles, LED lighting, a subsurface infiltration system to reduce stormwater runoff, rain gardens and vegetated swales with check dams, rather than piping, to slow stormwater runoff.
