Methacton High School’s Post Prom Celebration is well into its fifth month of planning, even though the event is still 3 months away on Friday, April 26. This is the high school’s 14th Post-Prom, and this year’s theme is “World Tour 2013 … The Journey Begins Tonight!”

Methacton’s Post Prom is one of the largest, most successful post proms in the area, attracting approximately 900 students. Hundreds of volunteers from the parent-body and the wider Methacton community come together every year to pull off this incredible event. It is the premier post prom celebration in Montgomery County.

The biggest fundraiser for the post prom event is the adult dinner/dance party, scheduled for Saturday Feb. 9, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Empress Room at St. Helena’s Catholic Church in Whitpain. The evening includes dinner, beer, (BYOB!), music by Sound Sensations, dancing, basket raffles and a silent auction. Tickets are $50 per person.

The two highest risk nights for teens are after prom and graduation. Post prom offers students a safe, drug, alcohol and tobacco-free option. This is not just another social event. Immediately following the prom, students spend the entire night at the school in a secure environment. The building is transformed with decorations, and activities are planned throughout the night including inflatable games, sporting events, casino tables, Wii games, a coffee house with student entertainers and roving performers including fortune tellers, massage therapists and balloon artists. Food is available throughout the event.

The highlight of the event takes place in the morning when Methacton juniors and seniors are eligible for some amazing prizes including laptop computers, flat screen TVs, iPods, iPads, DVD players, digital cameras, and video game systems.

The event is free to all Methacton juniors and seniors and their dates. All monies raised and supplies used come from donations made by parents, community members and businesses. The cost to pull off this event is about $40,000.

Volunteers are always needed the night of Post Prom. Adults wishing to volunteer may contact Sandy Leistensnider at bobnsan@verizon.net or call 610-222-4889. Donations or questions can be referred to this year’s Post Prom Co-Coordinators, Kimberlee Beam 610-888-8204 and Karen Kilgour 610-304-2503.
