We Found Our Greatest Sports Fan!

The competition was stiff, but one fan's lifelong commitment was as clear as the ink on her arm.

After weeks of voting, we have a winner in our "Greatest Sports Fan" contest. It was a tough competition with some serious super fans showing off their stuff, but one fan's devotion was so clear, so beautiful, so permanent, that it was pretty clear who had won voters' hearts. Patch reader Tara Sarica submitted the winning photos of a Phillies super fan who's tattoos of Harry Kalas, the Vet, and the Philly Phanatic testify to a lifelong commitment to our Fightin' Phils. Her entry garnered more than half of the 125 votes we received in our contest. We'll be contacting Tara shortly to let her know how she can claim her prize.   Thanks to all of those who entered or voted in our contest. You're all super fans in our books.

GA Sports: Lady LAX edges Springside, 17-15

Lady Patriots spread scoring around in league victory.

The Germantown Academy girls lacrosse team (7-3, 3-1) has been on the wrong end of some close games recently, with their three April loses coming in the form of four, two, and one point defeats. However, the Lady Patriots took the first step in balancing that ledger Monday, when they defeated The Springside School 17-15. Once again, GA was led by standout midfielder Brooke Kiley, who has led the Lady Pats in scoring every game, this time netting five. Kiley also tied for a team high three assists in the contest. However, five of Kiley's teammates also racked up multiple goals. Cooper Hall netted three, while Caroline Hayine, Kelli Stack, Allie Cannon, and Hanna Bogorowski scored two each. Hadley Hall also chipped in with one. Stack picked …

GA Sports: Baseball Slams Hun School, 14-3

Pitcher Joe Aiello does it all to lead Patriots.

By the middle of the first inning Tuesday, the scoreboard in Princeton New Jersey read Hun School: 0, Germantown Academy: 4. And that would prove to be all visiting Patriots (11-1) would need, although they tacked on plenty more in a 14-3 win. The offensive outburst came from all around the team, with seven players picking up at least one RBI. Pitcher Joe Aiello led the team with three runs-batted-in himself, to go along with his five innings of two-run ball. Aiello would strike out three and walk one while allowing just four hits.   Infielder Ryan Dolan continued his strong season for the Patriots, plating two and crossing home twice himself. Junior Robert Flood made the most of his insertion into the eighth spot on the lineup, picking up…

GA Sports: Lady LAX Clips Penn Charter in OT, 17-16

Rally from late three goal deficit.

Hollywood couldn't have scripted it any better. With just 1:30 left in the game against league foe Penn Charter, the Germantown Academy girls lacrosse team (5-2, 2-0) found themselves down 15-12 at home on Tuesday. But then a freshman-- of all players-- by the name of Allie Cannon stepped to the net and fired in a goal with 1:24 to play. 30 seconds later, she decided to do it again, recording her second score of the game to cut the lead to 15-14 with :54 to play. And just when it looked like the goals would be in vain, veteran Caroline Haynie whipped one past Penn Charter keeper Allison Rogers to tie the game up and head to overtime. The Lady Patriots' Kelli Stack would strike first in extra play, but a quick answer from Molly Pishini …
