Wissahickon Fire Co. and other companies fought a blaze at 58 Reiff's Mill Road Monday afternoon. The home is a complete loss, according to fire officials.
A fire at 58 Reiff's Mill Road in Ambler has injured one Spring Mill Fire Co. firefighter, displaced Greg and Julie Lowe and their five children, and took the life of at least one dog. The firefighter suffered second-degree burns to both ears, reported Wissahickon Fire Co. Chief John Leadbeater, and the firefighter was transported to Abington Memorial Hospital for treatment. Several other firefighters suffered smoke inhalation and exhaustion and were treated at the scene One firefighter cut himself on equipment on a fire engine, Leadbeater said. Ryan Torie and Callum Brazier, both residents of Lower Gwynedd Township, were medal winners this past Sunday at the Philadelphia City Championship Regatta.
A couple of local faces made quite an impression at last Sunday's Philadelphia City Championship Regatta on the Schuylkill River. Ryan Torie and Callum Brazier, both residents of Lower Gwynedd Township and freshman at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, earned medals after placing first in the Novice Quad event with a time of 5:08:59. The local duo, along with classmates Riley Bakes and Zach Cohen, beat out teams from Roman Catholic, Haverford, Conestoga, Boy's Latin and Germantown Academy. A second team from Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, which included Maple Glen's Matt Miller and Chestnut Hill's James Meadows, placed second in the JV double event. Wissahickon Creek Cleanup: Friends of the Wissahickon and Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association are teaming up Saturday morning to clean up and clean out the Wissahickon Creek for all its 21 miles. Comedy at Broad Axe Tavern: Mark Normand, Matt Ruby, and Ian Fidance headline a comedy night at Broad Axe Tavern on Saturday night. Doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m. Ticekts are $25 for Penn State Alumni Association members and $30 for non-members. MCCC Holds Montco's Got Talent: No Howard Stern, but Montgomery County Community College students will still try to wow the judges at the college's second annual "Montco's Got Talent" event Wednesday night.

Lower Gwynedd Police apprehended 20-year-old Karim Walker, of Philadelphia, who is accused of shooting at his girlfriend's brothers on Easter while his infant son was in his car.
A 20-year-old Philadelphia man was apprehended by Lower Gwynedd Police on Easter Sunday, after he allegedly fled the scene of a shooting in Lansdale. The incident occurred at 4 p.m. along the unit block of Ridge Street in Lansdale, where the alleged shooter – identified as Karim Walker, of Philadelphia – engaged in a dispute with his girlfriend's two brothers, according to police. Walker allegedly began yelling at the brothers in the alley, before pulling a handgun from his waistband and firing a single shot at the two men, the report states. No one was harmed during the incident. Walker then fled the scene eastbound on Route 63 in a black Ford SUV, which was also occupied by his two-year-old son, police said. He was apprehended a short …
