MCCC Invites Community to the Students’ Performing Arts Showcase and Fall Dance Ensemble Concerts

Montgomery County Community College invites the

community to come and enjoy the students’ Fall Performing Arts Showcase

performances on Dec. 2, 4 and 5 and Dance Ensemble Fall Concert on Dec. 6

in the Science

Center Theater, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell.

On Monday, Dec. 2, at 12:30 p.m. students will

present a one-hour matinee preview sampler of dance and music.  The

evening performances will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, and

Thursday, Dec. 5. Each evening performance will present

a different lineup of the best work by students in the music and dance

departments focusing on an array of popular American styles of music.

On Wednesday, Dec. 4, enjoy the Choir rendition

of John Rutter’s “Feel the Spirit.”  Directed by Andrew Kosciesza, this

featured medley highlights several poignant African-American spirituals,

including “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho,”

and “Deep River.”  For the finale, the Gospel Choir, with the

audience’s participation, will sing a lively rendition of “When the

Saints go Marching In.”



 



On Thursday, Dec. 5, the Jazz Lab Band under the

direction of Rob Haffley and Howard Gordan, will perform “Don’t Take the

‘B’ Train,” “Curious George,” and “The Pink Panther.” The Performance

Jazz Ensemble, led by Haffley, will perform

“How High the Moon,” “Hit the Bricks,” and “Autumn,” among other

favorites. Led by Dr. Elizabeth M. Guerriero, the Chamber Strings will

perform classic Broadway and movie songs. 



 



During both evenings, the Chamber Choir will

perform some Doo-Wop selections, including Billy Joel’s popular “For the

Longest Time.” 



 



The week concludes with the Dance Ensemble Fall Concert Friday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m.

and will include a guest appearance by Roux

Dance Company, performing a dance choreographed by MCCC alumna Chelsea

Jack. The Dance Performance Ensemble will present dances created by

students, as well as a dance choreographed by MCCC

alumna Rebecca Savage. Dances will encompass a range of styles

including modern, contemporary, tap, and hip hop, with themes ranging

from the lives of bees to the end of the world.
